About Me
My name is Starr McKay, and I am a senior at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where I am completing my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations. Originally from Orlando, Florida, I transferred to FAMU in August 2025 to finish my undergraduate journey at a place deeply rooted in culture, legacy, and storytelling.
My academic and professional experiences have shaped me into a communicator who values truth, clarity, and impact. Through my work at WANM 90.5, internship at Automotive Media, and participation in competitive journalism and communications programs, I have learned how powerful storytelling can be when it is used to inform, connect, and inspire communities.
Before fully stepping into communications, I built a foundation in healthcare as a pharmacy technician, where I developed discipline, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility. That experience taught me how to stay grounded under pressure and how to serve people with care and accuracy.
Today, I am focused on growing as a storyteller, broadcaster, and media professional. I have always loved writing and journaling, using words as a way to make sense of the world and the people in it. That passion has grown into a clear purpose: to use journalism and media as a platform to bring truth to light and amplify voices that are often overlooked.
After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in radio and broadcast media, where I can build my own segment centered on storytelling, truth-telling, and community impact.
One word at a time, one story at a time, I am learning how to step fully into my purpose. I am called to be a voice for the unspoken, using communication not just as a skill, but as a responsibility.
